YORK LIONS STADIUM

The Stadium is located on Ian Macdonald Boulevard, south of the Toronto Track & Field Centre, west of the Boyer Woodlot, east of the West Office Building and north of the Observatory.

The Province of Ontario, in co-operation with the GTA municipalities, was successful in its bid to host the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. In November of 2009, the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) members voted to award Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe region the hosting rights of the 2015 Pan Am Games.  The Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI) assigned the Pan Am Games project (including York University’s Athletics Stadium) to Ontario Infrastructure and Lands Corporation (Infrastructure Ontario/IO) to manage on behalf of the province.

Resulting from an RFP process conducted by IO and supported by Toronto 2015 and York University, a Project Agreement was executed on October 10, 2012 between IO and Ontario Sports Solutions (PAG) L.P. to procure the design, construction and financing for the Pan Am Athletics Stadium at York University.

The purpose of the Pan Am Athletics Stadium was to provide a high-performance track and field athletics centre to accommodate the athletics events of the 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games. As a legacy facility designed and built to international standards, the building accommodates approximately 3,000 spectators in fixed permanent seats and an additional 2,000 in re-locatable seating to support York’s Sport & Recreation programs while providing recreational opportunities for students, faculty and local residents.  As a facility designed to International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) standards, the York Lions stadium will remain a venue for high-performance athletes and events. York University identified Athletics (Track & Field) and Rugby as the primary legacy sports that will utilize this facility.
